"HELP!!!  This dog needs a home!"

We have all been there, we received a desperate email attempt, our friend can't keep their pet, we found dogs running our neighborhood, someone dumped this animal in the country... the list goes on.  We want to help but what EXACTLY can we do?

ART usually only pulls homeless animals out of high-kill shelters and we can only take in as many dogs as we have foster homes (click here for info on becoming a foster).

The following is a list of ART's suggestions:

1.       Get those signs up!  Post signs around the area.
2.      Call local vets and shelters to report a found dog!  You never know if the frantic owner has been making calls to the same places reporting a LOST dog!
3.      If the breed of the dog is apparent, get on the internet and search for a rescue that deals with that breed.  Ask for their suggestions.
Remember, most rescue groups are run on a volunteer basis and may not respond to you right away.
4.      Before sending the animal's information out for other groups and shelters to post, make sure you can provide them with these items: photo(s) of the animal, as much of a bio as possible including, age, sex, breed, temperment, behavioral observations, etc. and the contact info of the person in possession of the animal.
