PROJECT HOPE and the 2006 PROJECT HOPE BOOK DRIVE

Project Hope focuses on the needs of Dallas Animal Services. DAS staff and volunteers work long hours doing a very difficult job with a tiny budget and little support. The more we can help them, the better chance for life the thousands of homeless animals entering Dallas' animal shelters each year will have.

Did you know? Dallas Animal Services now employs a wonderful, enthusiastic and hard-working humane educator full-time. Her job is to take humane education out into the field by visiting classrooms and after-school programs and speaking at homeowner's assocations. But budget restraints leave her to work with only limited materials. Companions For Life is working hard to raise the money needed to purchase a wide variety of humane education materials for adults and children of all ages and donate those to Dallas Animal Services for her use.

The anticipation builds! Dallas Animal Services is anxiously awaiting the opening of a new, state of the art shelter in Spring of 2007. For the first time in Dallas' history, the new shelter will include a classroom dedicated to humane education. The classroom setting will allow groups of kids to visit the shelter to participate in hands-on, interactive humane education lessons and observe the daily workings of the shelter, its staff, and the homeless animals available for adoption. Our goal is to raise enough money to furnish and equip the new classroom with computer equipment, lesson plans, videos, learning games, posters, flyers, and a library full of books on all aspects of pet care and behavior, wildlife issues, the environment, and more!

Here's how you can help!
2006 PROJECT HOPE BOOK DRIVE

Join our new book drive! Companions For Life and Animal Rescue of Texas have teamed up to build a library of award-winning children's books for the new classroom at Dallas Animal Services' new shelter! Children's books about animals help foster kindness and compassion and help children grow up to be kind, capable young adults. They teach children how to care for animals, illustrate the relationship between people and animals, promote pet adoptions, and remind children that everyone deserves a chance, a name, and a place to belong, plus so much more!
