Maltese / Poodle (Miniature) / Mixed : : Male : : Adult : : Small
Meet AJ, this handsome little Maltipoo is somewhere between 7 and 9 years of age. He had a rough start in life and is looking for that someone special who can help him manage his baggage in a loving home. AJ was raised outside and when his owners decided they no longer wanted him, they put him out on the street with another dog they had at the same time. He then spent a short stint with a person who saw nothing wrong with transporting him in the trunk of their car. Add to the fact that he was hit by a car somewhere in the past and you can understand that when he came to us he had a strong suspicion of people.
AJ has taken well to living in a loving, supportive environment and has transformed into a champion snuggler! Such a smart guy! He learned to use the doggie door very quickly and with that access, is fully housebroken. He LOVES interactive toys where he has to solve a puzzle or task for a treat. He also loves soft toys and gets along great with all his foster siblings.
AJ had some damage to his hind quarters when he was hit by the car. Our vet has checked him out. AJ is a little stiff in that area and may have arthritis later on in life, but is otherwise in good shape physically. He is very protective of that area and sometimes when you go to pick him up, he anticipates the pain and will growl. We go slowly and let him adjust to the idea of being picked up and all is good. He is getting better and better at trusting us, but due to his reaction, we do not recommend AJ to a home with a lot of activity or young, playful children.

AJ is looking for a quiet, comfortable place where he can just cuddle up and be your best buddy. He would be happy with other pups or as an only dog. He would even love going along with you as you go about your day, he loves sitting int he correct part of the car, as long as he can look out, and thinks regular walks are the absolute best thing in the world. Are you the one he is searching for?
