Learn more about the Catahoula Leopard Dog. What is a Catahoula Leopard Dog? The Catahoula breed is originally developed in Louisiana as a hunting dog. Today, they are athletic, energetic, brilliant, loyal, loving, attentive, dedicated, and hard working family dogs. Houlas are happiest spending time with their humans being active and they love it when you give them something to do, to figure out. These fascinating dogs will NOT be ignored, and can not be crated for extended periods of each day. These wonderful, life changing souls needs human companions who are willing to take a very active role in the relationship, to recognize and address their needs. Not just anyone can earn the unbelievable love and devotion of a Houla. Skye loves to play all day and is ready for any activity you want to provide. Go for a walk, yes! Play tug with toys, yes! She has learned to sit and is crate trained. Although Skye loves to go to the dog park, when she is on a leash, she must be slowly introduced to individual dogs one on one. She is very protective of her family as is typical of the breed. Skye is a double merle, therefore we have realized that she is 99% deaf. She can hear sirens and sharp noises, but that's all. Her deafness does not affect her at all. She acts like any other dog. As an added bonus of her deafness, she is not scared of thunderstorms like some dogs are. We use basic hand signals to train Skye. Catahoulas are very devoted and loyal family members. All of our animals come fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered and microchipped.
